The Plugin

The Designers Contribution Graph allows people to visualise their Figma file history across all their selected projects. You can then share this graph as an image, React component, or a CSV to create your own graph.

Idea

Software Engineers have GitHub. With GitHub, you can see how often people contribute to projects via their contribution graph. I see Figma as designers' GitHub so I wondered, 'Can I visualize Figma activity in a GitHub-like contribution graph?'

Process

I like to start in Figma and have design ideas before I start building. I used GitHub's graph to get the basics of what I needed and then styled it in Figma's language. With the UI done, I copied the design from Figma and gave it to Claude Code to build the design, with the functionality being built afterwards.

Problems

One of the biggest problems I encountered early on was answering the question: "What's the point of this plugin?" You can see your own Figma history, cool, but that's all it can do. So I built the export function. SWEs often display their GitHub contribution graphs on their portfolios, so I figured designers might want to do the same for Figma. I decided there were three main ways people would want to show off their Figma usage: as an image, if they just wanted to share it; as HTML/CSS/React, if they wanted something interactive; or as a CSV, if they wanted to build their own custom graph with their data.
